The right thing to do will not always feel great or be an easy decision to make, in fact it will probably be incredibly hard a lot of the time. Doing the right thing can take a lot of courage and strength.
If we decide that moving forward ‘doing the right thing’ is one of values, part of our moral code that we live by. Although this may not make the individual decisions easier, it will make the choice of whether to do the right thing or not easier as we know that it must be done. When something becomes one of values and ways of life, it means we have no doubt or questioning over what needs to be done. We know that ‘doing the right thing’ is part of our morals and therefore will always strive to do what is right in every circumstance.
Doing the ‘right thing’ could be as simple as not eating the last slice of your sisters leftover birthday cake and saving it for her. Or it could be as complex as putting one of your parents in a care home when it has reached the time to do so. Or it could be knowing when it is time to leave your relationship even when you still love the person but know that they are not meant for you or do not align with what you want from life.
Doing the ‘right thing’ is incredibly complex and sometimes we get it wrong. That is okay. That is part of life and part of growing up and learning. Sometimes there is no clear cut right thing and we must do what we think is best in the moment.
The important thing to remember is to STRIVE to do the right thing, in every situation.
