In life, we will not always get every single little thing we want. We must accept this and learn to compromise and meet people in the middle or use our skills to bargain to get as close to what we want as possible.
Let’s use the example of wanting an investor for your business – you want to offer them only 5% stake in the business for a £500,000 investment in it. This investor may not be happy with these numbers and offer up the £500,000 if they get 10 or even 15% of the business or may offer less money for that 5% stake. You may come back to this offer and not be happy with it yourself so choose to suggest a different offer that is closer to meeting the both of your needs. Let’s say you offer back 7.5% of your business for the full £500,000 investment but you offer to pay back £50,000 within the first year etc.
This is a pretty big and serious example of compromise and learning to work with and around others rather than against them.
Compromise is also vital in relationships and friendships, business partners, parents, children, bosses and managers, co workers etc. Compromise helps to bring peace. It allows both people or multiple people to get something they want or much closer to it rather than 1 person getting everything they want and everyone else getting nothing.
It is a brilliant skill to learn for yourself and the better you get at it, the more it will benefit you. As when you know how to use the skill of it, you can use it to your advantage.
