What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
Quality > Quantity
I understand wanting to live a long life, however I think people believe living a long life will make them happiest, whereas I believe living a happy, healthy life full of the things you love will make you the most happiest, which in turn may lead to a longer life.
I think what we do with our lives is much more important than their length of time.
I would much rather spend 30-50 years doing what I love, contributing to the world, getting to help others and make the world a better place than spend 80-90 years doing something unfulfilling and not really contributing anything to the world.
I think this also comes back to focusing on and enjoying the journey of life instead of always thinking about the end goal. Life is a journey. One might argue our only true journey. Or perhaps the only one that really matters. We should be focusing on what we do with it rather than trying to prolong what is inevitable anyway.
If we take time from our lives to learn about our bodies, systems and how we work as humans and prioritise our health then a healthier, longer life will be a bi-product of this anyway.
I would rather live a ‘healthier’ life for 60 years where I am able bodied, fully functioning and independent and not riddled with illnesses and pains than spend 50 years being that way and then the last 30 years of my life I spend with aches and pains and be dependant on others, with a lower quality of life.
Therefore, I believe what we do with our lives rather than the length of them is much more important and furthermore that if we prioritise living a happy, healthy life, we will reap the benefits of living a longer one as a result.
