In life, we have to make a lot of decisions. Many a time, there will be obvious choices where we know what the ‘right’ answer is. However, there will also ,any other times where we are not sure what the correct answer is, which can make us indecisive. I suffer from this myself, but I am coming to realise that this is something I need to work on. If I cannot make decisions, I cannot progress. We need to learn to be okay with making a ‘wrong’ decision sometimes. We are not mind-readers, we cannot see into the future or predict what will happen, nor should we be able to – where would be the fun in that? Therefore, we must learn to make decisions and hard choices when we are unsure of what is the right thing to do or what the outcome will be.
Action is better than inaction. Action means you’re moving forward, even if everything goes tits up – you’re learning, growing, evolving and know that you made a decision or choice that may not have turned out for the best, but at least you tried, at least now you can move forward and make a more informed decision which may in fact turn out for the best because you now have the experience and knowledge.
I think J.Cole touched on this topic pretty well when he said “the good news is * you came a long way, the bad news is * you went the wrong way”. Now of course, we all want to go the right way and we should strive towards that. But who says going the wrong way isn’t actually part of going the right way? Surely, going a long way in some instances, rather than no where at all – is headed the right way eventually? If you make a wrong decision now, I guarantee what you learn from that decision will help you on your path to making the ‘right’ decisions.
And sometimes there is no right or wrong there just ‘is’. Sometimes you just simply have to decide. Go with your gut. Feel the decision, but make it. You will never go anywhere if you cannot make decisions or choices for yourself or others if you are a leader. It won’t always be easy, but I believe it will be worth it.
