Kaizen is a Japanese philosophy that is defined as ‘continuous improvement’ or ‘change for the better’. It has been around for many years and used by various companies and people as a work ethic or life guide.
It is a concept I discovered around 10 months ago and has changed my life ever since. It is so simple and so perfect. Continuous improvement. What could possibly be better than that for the development and growth of a human being? I have made it my philosophy, one of my core values – that I will strive to be better and do better every day, constantly and forever. For me, it symbolises all the hard things I’ve overcome for choosing to improve each day and also represents not giving up no matter the situation or hardship I am facing and striving to improve even in the face of such hardships.
In my opinion, I think this philosophy should be more widely used and spread as it is so simple yet conveys such a strong message that everyone can understand and come back to.
Kaizen is waking up each day a little bit earlier even when all you want to do is crawl back into bed. Kaizen is choosing to have a piece of fruit rather than a cookie. Kaizen is choosing to cook at home instead of ordering takeout. Kaizen is choosing to be kind to a stranger, or an enemy. Kaizen is learning to have patience. Kaizen is learning to love and open yourself up to others. Kaizen is discovering what you love and enjoy. Kaizen is studying hard. Kaizen is everything. Kaizen is everywhere.
