Sometimes, (or maybe a lot of the time) we can lose ourselves a little. We get lost in our thoughts, our busy lives, what’s going wrong, all the things we need to do. It’s so important to take a step back from this and recenter yourself (aka just chill the fuck out for a second).
I have personally being going through one of these phases recently. For quite a while I’ve been much calmer and more chilled (I’m naturally pretty crazy and my brain either goes at 0 or 100,000 miles per hour). However, since the passing of my dog I feel like my brain is back in high gears, never slowing down. I’m not sure whether it’s a grief response or just a phase I am going through but it is slightly frustrating and just a lot to deal with. I constantly feel the need for everything to be organised and perfect and do be always do something.
Therefore I am trying to recenter, re-adjust and re-think. In order to do these things, I am focusing on:
- My meditation – I meditate every morning for 10 minutes (do more if you can). At first I found this very hard as I got bored and was impatient and wanted to move, but the more I’ve done – the easier i find it. I either focus on my breathing or let my mind wander to where it wants to go, see if the thought needs thinking about or if it’s just irrelevant then I shake it away and go back to nothing until the next thought comes around.
- Gratitude journaling. I have done this for almost a year and find it especially helpful during times like this as it helps to remind what I have, what I can be appreciative of and all the blessings in my life no matter the circumstances. I find it useful to do this in the morning as it starts the day of from a place of gratitude.
- Spending time with myself. Taking myself on dates, walks, drives, simply being alone. You could be doing work also but simply being alone and processing through your thoughts can be very helpful.
- Diary. I personally do voice notes as my diary simply because I find it easier and I prefer it. However you can do whatever tickles your fancy. Keeping some form of diary helps to truly get yourself to express how your feeling and put it into words – which can help you to understand those feelings and learn about yourself and your thoughts.
- Reminding myself in moments when I am tense, stressed or going 100 miles per hour that I am okay, everything is okay and everything will be okay. Have faith and trust. Everything is temporary and will pass. This isn’t forever.
These are just a few, main things. I hope this reaches who it needs to.
Have a great day 🙂
