I know a lot of what I write about evolves around gratitude and being appreciative of what you have – but it’s because of how important it is!! I truly think being grateful is one of the most important things a human can be if not THE most important.
Today’s focus is not taking things for granted which is a similar topic.
We go about our daily lives forgetting how blessed we are and how much we actually have in comparison to our past selves or those less fortunate than us.
Here is a list of things many of us take for granted (there are many more) :
- We are alive
- We have a sun that rises every day
- We are able to walk
- We have functional body parts
- We have a job
- We have a car(s)
- We have a roof over our heads
- We have a bed
- We have grandparents
- We have parents
- We have siblings
- We have running water
- We have joy in our lives
- We are loved
- We are cared for
- We have clothes
- We have money to spend on buying those clothes
- We have phones
- We have ways of communicating that people 100 years ago could never have dreamed of
- We have convenience
- We have shops
- We can travel
I could go on for hours. Some of you may not have all of these things, but I am confident that you will have at least one. The point is not what you don’t have – the point is focusing on what you DO have. There will always be things you want and do not have and it is okay to strive towards having those things if they mean something to you but we must not forget all that we do have first.
If you want a new car but can’t afford the green Porsche gt3 rs that you want yet – remember the car that you do have – that enables you to get from place to place quickly, efficiently and with ease. Remember that there are many who do not have this luxury and dream of owning a car just like the one you have.
If you’re getting bored of your wardrobe and the clothes you have (which we all do and I get it) – try to remember that there are people who only have 1 change of clothes, or maybe none at all. There are people who have never owned an item of clothing that is their own. Also remember where those clothes came from and the people that made them. If you are buying new clothes – do something with your old clothes that may benefit others.
Don’t take what you have for granted. Be grateful for what you have- because there was a time when you didn’t have it and there are many out there who dream of having what you have.
