Anyone know the song ‘Let her go’?
I think it describes very well the concept of not knowing or appreciate what you have until it’s gone.
A few lines from the song –
‘Only miss the sun when it starts to snow’
‘Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low’
‘Only know you love her when you let her go’
We tend to as a species, only appreciate things once they have passed and use that to complain about where we currently are – for example – ‘My hair was so long, it’s so short now I hate it’.
We need to learn to be present in the moment that we are in, regardless of how ‘good’ or ‘ bad’ that moment is.
Specifically, with the people we love, including our pets and animals. Don’t complain about having to take your dog for a walk – you GET to take your dog for a walk. Don’t complain about the cost of food for your cat – you GET to keep you cat healthy and breathing by feeding it. Don’t complain about your pet keeping you up in the night + you GET to comfort them and make them feel loved. It’s all about perspective. And it’s all about appreciating what you have WHEN YOU HAVE IT and not after, when it’s too late.
Be present, be grateful and be loving.
