BODY POSITIVITY

Legs, arms, hands, fingers, neck, face, ears, feet, toes, stomach, hips, boobs, bum.

Fat, skinny, chubby, thick, small, big, tall, short.

These are all the things your mind immediately jumps to when thinking about your body and what you look like. I think a lot of significant progress has been made in terms of people’s self confidence surrounding their bodies (predominantly women) and how they feel about themselves – WHICH IS AMAZING.

However, we all still struggle. I have always been someone who is naturally skinny (lucky you I’m sure many of you are thinking) and yes ofcourse I am lucky, BUT that does not mean I did not struggle with the way that my body looked. No boobs, average height, skinny, medium ass would probably be my description for the majority of my life. I spent years thinking I was bigger than I was and battling with that and stuffing my bra with toilet paper or wearing push up bras consistently praying they would finally grow. Spoiler alert – they didn’t.

Fast forward a few years and I have been going to the gym consistently for almost a year – I have grown my ass, legs and arms and am so much more confident with myself and the way that I look – I still have no boobs but I have learnt to love my lil biscuits and although on occasion admire a pair of boobs and think it would be nice to have them, I am quite happy and comfortable with my own.

The changes I have made that have helped to change my self view:

  • Physically working on changing and strengthening my body through the gym and other physical activities. (I have spoken briefly on the importance of this before because of the ENDLESS benefits) – check out my post called ‘MOVE YOUR BODY BITCH’.
  • Affirmations – writing or reading/saying them out loud – write and cater then to you and your insecurities rather than using generic ones.
  • Acceptance – accepting that this is my body and what I look like and ofcourse there are ways of altering it but ultimately this is what I was blessed with. Everyone is unique and I don’t want to look like every other person – I want to look like me.
  • Being around people who are positive and kind towards the way you look (not in idolised or ego boosting way although maybe slightly) – more in a appreciation and just generally nice way.
  • Speaking kindly to and about yourself – your thoughts become your beliefs and your truth – if you continuously say horrible things about yourself and your body then you will believe those things and it will reflect on your personality. Whereas speaking kindly and lovingly about and to yourself will slowly help to boost your confidence and lead to acceptance and self love.
  • Realising your body is simply a vessel. What truly matters is what’s inside your body – your beating heart, organs etc working so hard to keep you alive.
  • Realising how blessed you are to have an able body, with working limbs that can carry things, walk, run, jump, skip, hoola hoop, cuddle your dog. Your body is a blessing and a gift so treat it that way.

So….

Treat your body with kindness and love and view it as the gift that it is.

Have a beautiful day 🙂
