
When was the last time you went and did something ALONE? And I’m not talking about going to work, doing the shopping or any of that shit. I’m talking about taking the time out of your week to go and do something BY YOURSELF.
Being around others and socialising is such an important part of our lives, but so many of us forget to just be with ourselves, alone with our thoughts, our ideas, our brains and our bodies. I know this may sound terrifying, and at first it may be. BUT, it will FREE you. Learning to be truly comfortable with yourself and your thoughts is VITAL.
I never did ANYTHING alone, I had pretty bad anxiety and speaking to people I didn’t know or going somewhere I didn’t know used to scare the shit out of me – so I never went out of my comfort zone. And guess what… as a result my anxiety worsened🫡 Why? Because as soon as I was forced just the slightest bit out of my comfort zone – I lost my shit. Does that sound sustainable to you? If you remain in that state, there is only so far you can go, and it will not be far. That may sound insensitive but I am saying it from a place of honesty, care and personal experience.
Once I started forcing myself to be alone, to leave the house alone, go for walks alone, go to a cafe alone, go shopping alone I became so much freer. I gained so much confidence and I haven’t had a panic attack since…. Don’t get me wrong I still get anxious but I altered my mindset and changed how I react and deal with things (we will discuss this at a later date). But my general anxiety and the extent it used to get to EVAPORATED once I consistently stepped out of my comfort zone. Make yourself uncomfortable in the short run to pay off and be comfortable in the long run.
Here’s some ideas of what you could do ALONE – (we’ll start off small and build it up)
- Go for a walk – around your block, then further & further
- Go to a cafe – your fave one to start, then try something you’ve never tried on the menu, sit in a different seat, then go to a different cafe and do the same – EXPLORE & HAVE FUN
- Go to the gym – try new machines, a new workout, a new split, A NEW GYM
- Go for a drive – take a different route than you usually would, you don’t have to have an end goal but do something DIFFERENT. Listen to different music, a podcast, no music, try driving with no directions
- Bike ride – any pretty sites near you? Go and find a view somewhere, take a warm drink, get your heart pumping
- Go to a park – go to a park near you, it can be at a quiet time – have fun on the slide or the swings or the climbing frame
- Go and start a new class – yoga, Pilates, dance, boxing, art – ANYTHING. Go and learn something and have fun expressing yourself – find out what you enjoy.
- Go to a pottery shop – paint or create something that you love – it can be amazing or a complete piece of shit – it’s the process of doing it that matters!
- Go on public transport – chill & relax and just observe people – ask someone a question even if you already know the answer – get over your fear of starting a conversation.
- Go for dinner – treat yourself to a boujee meal of some food that you love – you could start off going to a fave restaurant and then expand and try new places – go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go!
- Go on a solo trip – NOW THIS IS A BIG ONE BUT U CAN SLAY IT TRUST ME!! Go somewhere you’ve dreamed of going – go for a week, 3 days, A DAY it doesn’t matter as long as you go!
